A Clatsop County Narcotics Team investigation has led to the arrest of two subjects Monday afternoon on methamphetamine related charges. Drug Task Force detectives witnessed an ongoing high volume of drug related activity at the residence located at 940 3rd Avenue in Seaside, which is within 1,000 feet of the Broadway Middle School and appeared to be related to a significant amount of methamphetamine delivery in the area.

The Astoria DMV field office will be closed the entire week of May 20 for repairs and updates to the interior. Also, all DMV offices, including headquarters, will be closed that Friday, May 24, for the statewide furlough and Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day.

Clatsop Community College's Maritime Science Program has received approval from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) as an approved Training Ship Program that allows those successfully completing the course of study to be credited with 360 days of sea service, training and testing towards an endorsement as Able Seaman Special (AB-Special) or Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) upon Near Coastal or Inland Waters.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released a Finding of No Significant Impact for its Environmental Assessment for adaptively managing predation on Caspian terns in the Lower Columbia River Estuary.  Based on the FONSI, no action will be taken to manage predation.

Next week traffic enforcement in Washington State will focus on distracted driving with agencies paying special attention to those who make a habit of texting, or putting a cell phone to their ear when driving.  Both practises are illegal in both Oregon and Washington already but the Washington "Target Zero" task force plans to put an exclamation point on the issue.

A public open house will be held for the Irving Avenue Bridge Replacement project on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Astoria Recreation Center, 1411 Grand Avenue, Astoria. The City of Astoria and ODOT secured federal funding from the Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation program to replace the Irving Avenue Bridge at 19th Street.

Columbia Land Trust today announced that it has purchased 2,330 acres of contiguous forestlands and critical riparian habitat on the southern flanks of Mount St. Helens. The purchase permanently conserves some nine miles of Pine Creek and its major tributary. A clear, cold-water mountain stream, Pine Creek is prime habitat for bull trout, a threatened species listed under the federal Endangered Species Act.
