Oregon Army National Guard Col. William Edwards, of Albany, Oregon, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in a ceremony, April 2, at the Oregon Military Department in Salem, Oregon. He assumed command of the Oregon Army National Guard (Land Component) from Brig. Gen. Todd A. Plimpton in a change of command ceremony, April 3, at Camp Withycombe, in Clackamas, Oregon.

 Saturday night at approximately 11:42 PM Depoe Bay Fire District responded to a report of a structure fire on Alderwood Street in Gleneden Beach. Multiple 911 callers reported a fully involved home two story home, with additional smoke and flames coming from a neighboring house. Callers also stated there were people trapped on the second story deck.

Depoe Bay Firefighters responded and the first fire engine on scene reported a fully involved two story house, a second home on fire, a power line down in the middle of the street and a person down with CPR in progress.

The Coast Guard rescued a 41-year-old man who suffered a severe leg injury while on the north jetty of Grays Harbor, Washington.

A Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the man and brought him to the Bowerman airport on Sunday. He was taken to Seattle for medical care.

The initial report came in to Grays Harbor station via 911 dispatch. The station personnel relayed the report to watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River who directed the launch of the helicopter crew.

Chief Petty Officer Justin Urbano says the severity of the man's injuries made it critical to get him medical attention quickly.

The man was not immediately identified.

Elected people in Clatsop County tend to go to numerous meetings during their course of office but there has never been a meeting like the one held Thursday night at McMenamins Sandtrap in Gearhart.

Seated around the table were Mayors, Councilors and Commissioners from every incorporated city in the county called together by County Commission Chairman Scott Lee for a work session. That work session dealt with some of the biggest issues faced by the region along with a few that the cities brought to the table that failed to gain any traction.

A comprehensive master plan for Astoria Parks and Recreation has been underway since the Fall of 2015 when the department gave it a top priority to meet a city council goal. Each step of the process has included opportunity for public participation. Now a first draft is up for public discussion at three different presentations in April.

If you took a deep sea fishing trip out of Depoe Bay and did business with Tradewinds Charters chances are good that one day fishing license they sold you was illegal. You may be compensated according to a just released court order. On February 18th, 2016, owners and employees of Tradewinds of Depoe Bay, Inc. plead guilty to Felony Racketeering charges stemming from an Oregon State Police investigation that began in 2012 and resulted in the execution of search warrants at the Depoe Bay fishing charter business in March 2015.  The investigation determined Tradewinds of Depoe Bay charged customers for daily angling licenses and instead of issuing a handwritten 1-day angling license, would provide the customer with a register receipt. This enabled Tradewinds of Depoe Bay retain the angling license revenue for the licenses that weren't issued.

On Monday March 28, 2016 a 21-year-old Ilwaco man was lodged in the Clatsop County Jail for crimes involving online sexual corruption and sexual abuse of a local teenage girl. Following a month long investigation by the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, Jesse Lee Jetland was arrested in Astoria. Jetland was lodged in the Clatsop County Jail Monday afternoon on two counts of Sodomy II, and one count each of Online Sexual Corruption I, Rape I and Burglary I.

Monday afternoon the Clatsop County Dive team and marine patrol were able to recover the body of 63 year-old Irene Mustain from the tangled wreckage of the 1941 North American AT-6 that crashed into the Columbia river on Wednesday the 23rd 2016. The body of the pilot, John McKibbin was recovered earlier when the wreckage of the plane was located and divers were able to make their way through the murky waters and get to him.  Divers reported that without more equipment they were unable to remove Mustain's body and marked the location.

On Thursday March 24, 2016 a 21-year-old Moses Lake (WA) man was lodged in the Clatsop County Jail for crimes involving online sexual corruption and sexual abuse of a local teenage girl. Following a two month long investigation by the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office and FBI-Portland, Brandon Wayne Albert Eide, also known as Brandon Bachtold, was taken into custody by the Moses Lake Police Department. Eide's initial arrest occurred February 22, 2016; he was lodged in the Clatsop County Jail Thursday night following a month long extradition process.

Clatsop County Sheriff Tom Bergin reports that after three days of searching the river patrol and dive team found the wreck of a private plane that crashed into the Columbia River Wednesday afternoon.The body of the pilot, John McKibbin, was recovered. The passenger has been identified as Irene Mustain of Woodland Washington.

A Coast Guard air crew rescued three men who became stranded after walking about a mile out onto the Columbia River South Jetty, Thursday.
