Dulcye Taylor received an Excellence in Downtown Revitalization Award as the "Volunteer of the Year" representing a Performing Main Street level community from Oregon Main Street on Oct. 7 during the Oregon Main Street Conference in The Dalles. This award is given to a Main Street volunteer from a Performing Main Street and a Transforming Downtown community for their overall impact on the local downtown revitalization program. Ms. Taylor was on hand to accept the award.

Dulcye Taylor has been involved in the Astoria Downtown Historic District Association (ADHDA) as a board member since the fall of 2009 and president for the past few years. In less than six years, she has evolved from being a downtown business owner and periphery ADHDA participant to a true consensus builder and community leader.

Tuesday a Clatsop County Sheriff's deputy initiated a pursuit with a white Nissan Maxima on N. Holladay and 12th Ave in Seaside after witnessing the vehicle travel through the intersection at a high rate of speed and almost striking the Sheriff's Office patrol car. The vehicle traveled north of N. Holladay at a high rate of speed and then traveled north on Hwy 101 at high rates of speed, continuously passing north bound vehicles in an unsafe and reckless manner.  That's how it started.

The Sheriff's Office over the course of the last three days has received multiple reports of thefts and trespasses on property ranging from the Clatsop Plains to rural Gearhart. The suspect was operating an ATV stolen from High Life Adventures. On October 2rd the caretaker of the Tagg Farm on the Clatsop Plains reported a person operating an ATV on the property early in the morning. Sheriff's units responded and with the assistance of the caretaker chased the ATV in the woods east of the Clatsop Plains. Sheriff's Office recovered a utility trailer and other stolen items that had disconnected from the ATV during the chase. This led to the Sheriff's Office discovering one burglary on Hwy 101 in the area of Camp Rilea.

At 12:55 a.m., Friday, Port of Astoria personnel reported to Coast Guard Sector Columbia River that the 565-foot, Panamanian-flagged, bulk carrier Global Gold collided with Pier 1 in the Port of Astoria, causing a 4-foot by 8-inch gash in the port side of the hull approximately 30 feet from the stern.

A unified command composed of the U.S. Coast Guard, Oregon State Department of Environmental Quality, Washington State Department of Ecology and responsible party was established in response to the diesel fuel discharge at Pier 1 in Astoria, Friday.

A local group of citizens have banded together through Facebook to express strong support for the proposal to build a Walmart store in the North Coast Business Park. The Coast Guard, and other local agency personnel are responding to a diesel fuel spill from a Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier at Pier 1 in Astoria, Friday morning. The vessel had reportedly hit the pier while pulling in, sustained damage and was leaking diesel oil from a 4-foot gash in the hull on the port side above the waterline.

An HC-130 Hercules aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento and members of the Coast Guard 13th District enforcement division conducted a fisheries surveillance flight over 6,000 square miles of ocean, Wednesday.  During the flight, which covered territory between the Canadian border and central Oregon, the team identified and collected information on 32 fishing vessels.

The Astoria Column was just 24 hours away from completion of a major refurbishment when vandals struck overnight.

According to a news release, Thursday morning the damage was discovered as crews returned to finish up the work and found that one or more persons had tossed white primer paint onto the top portion of the column exterior.

It's going to take a bit longer to get the highway west of Cathlamet reopened without a detour. WSDOT reports difficult site conditions and challenging work will delay the reopening of State Route 4.

On Saturday morning it was discovered that the City of Warrenton website had been hijacked. The normal main webpage had been replaced with a single image of what appeared to be graves with wooden crosses and a derogatory message about America being in Iraq.
