While not widely known, the June 27th closure of the Warrenton office of the Department of Environmental Quality is certainly of concern to local septic system installers and realtors who depend on the records kept by that office that may end up in Portland,or worse, across the state in Pendelton.
The Astoria Traffic Safety Committee Tuesday night heard a report on the pilot project to improve pedestrian safety by the city engineering department and asked the department to go back to the drawing board over a number of items.
The Washington State Patrol says a man was struck and critically injured Tuesday night while walking across Highway 103 in Long Beach. The patrol says 27-year-old Justin Lee Woods was flown to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.

Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today announced her spring town hall meeting schedule. The public events will occur throughout April around the 1st congressional district. The schedule includes meetings in Seaside, Warrenton, Beaverton, Forest Grove, Columbia City, Portland, Sherwood, and McMinnville.
A story out of Salem would have a familiar ring for many Astorians as Chemeketa Community College is working with a group to manage a free-roaming colony of cats that live in a wooded area on campus.

A prank on an intoxicated 15 year-old backfired at an underage drinking party and led to thirty-eight (38) minors being cited for Minor in Possession of Liquor. Officers responded to a report of a young girl trapped in a bathroom with a black eye in the 1200 block of S. Columbia. Officers arrived to find an underage drinking party and the female who was intoxicated did not have a black eye and had been locked in a closet as a prank.
An 18-foot fishing boat with Asian characters on its side washed ashore in Long Beach, Washington Friday. Scientists have taken samples from the boat to determine if any are invasive species. Mussels and gooseneck barnacles were found attached to the vessel. It's reported that some live fish were found in the fish well in the stern of the boat.
State Representative Deborah Boone reports that several of her bills are progressing through the Oregon House this session. HB 2182, which would designate September 27th as the First Responder Appreciation Day, received unanimous support on the House Floor, and is now on the Senate side
