More military housing will be appearing on Astoria's south slope in the coming years as the city council moves toward rezoning some of that land for multi-family dwellings.  In 1992 the Coast Guard purchased a large parcel of land for the construction of USCG housing.

This week, a Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) work crew began cleaning up accumulated marine debris that washed ashore on Willapa Bay beaches this summer.

The 4-member crew focused its removal efforts on a stretch of beach west of Tokeland, an area between Bruceport County Park and the DNR-managed Bone River Natural Area Preserve on the east side of the bay.

Astoria-Megler Bridge has reopened to full traffic after ODOT determined that segments of contractor work decks pose no threat to traffic on the bridge.  ODOT will continue to monitor the situation but does not anticipate any additional bridge closings at this time.

An armed robbery occurred at approximately 4:11pm Friday at the Willapa Harbor Golf Course at 2424 Fowler Road just outside of the City of Raymond. The suspect was described as a white male, 5-11, 200 lbs, dark complexion, wearing a black hat, black sweatshirt, and Khaki pants. The subject was armed with a handgun, and left with an undetermined amount of cash. No injuries were reported. The subject fled on foot.

Two children were rescued from the rocks at Agate Beach, Ore., Friday.

Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay in Newport received a report from the Lincoln County dispatch that two children aged 16 and 10 had become trapped on the rocks at Agate Beach near Yaquina Head, Ore.

The Coast Guard rescued two men from a sinking vessel near Queets, Wash., Friday.

Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor in Westport, Wash., received a report from crew of the fishing vessel Koprindo that the vessel was taking on water approximately 15 miles west of Queets within the Olympic Marine Sanctuary.

The Coast Guard rescued three men who were forced to abandon ship after their vessel caught fire Friday.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River in Warrenton, Ore., recieved a Mayday call from the crew of the fishing vessel Havana at approximately 6 a.m. The crew reported the vessel was burning 17 miles west of Cannon Beach, Ore., with three people on board.

Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of the Clatsop County Medical Examiner, are continuing the investigation into the cause of death of an adult male found deceased Thursday evening in a van parked on the beach approximately a half mile north of the Del Ray Beach access north of Gearhart. There is no evidence the man's death is the result of a crime.

Transforming Downtown is for communities who are committed to downtown revitalization using the Main Street Approach(R) but need technical assistance to take them to the next level.
