Customers of NW Natural Gas, Avista Utilities and Cascade Natural Gas can expect to pay less for natural gas this coming winter. The new rates go into effect Nov.1, 2012.
The Clatsop County Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Seaside Police Department and Astoria Police Department executed multiple search warrants in Astoria and Seaside Friday afternoon, resulting in the arrest of Leland James Wilson, 34, of Astoria. Due to citizen complaints, Drug Task Force Detectives began an investigation of Wilson and confirmed Wilson to be responsible for distributing considerable quantities of Marijuana within the community.
Clatsop County Drug Task Force Detectives with the assistance of the Seaside Police Department arrested Levi Dennis Broome, 29, of Seaside, on charges of Possession of Marijuana, Manufacture of Marijuana and Delivery of Marijuana.
"See and be seen" is a piece of advice making its way around the state, as residents prepare for the annual time change this Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2 a.m. That's when we set our clocks back one hour, and it means the morning commute will bring darkness to us one hour earlier. Pedestrians will want to wear bright or reflective clothing and drivers will want to be extra alert. One person lost his life this year in a pedestrian accident in downtown Astoria, and there has been a great deal of discussion about how to address the many near-misses that happen on a regular basis.
Oregon authorities advise drivers not to swerve when they see deer or elk in the roadway. Drivers who swerve are likely to lose control or crash into another vehicle. Authorities say it's best to slow down and stay in your lane.
Drivers on the West Coast and nationwide are enjoying a second week of double-digit decreases in pump prices. The national average for regular unleaded falls 11 cents this week to $3.53 while Oregon's statewide average drops 12 cents to $3.84.
Power first went out Tuesday afternoon around 2:30pm in areas of Astoria when sections of a tree fell onto power lines causing the outage. Pacific power first reported that there were just under 2000 customers affected. This past Saturday was the final day of the OMG Radio, Okie's Thriftway Market, Great NorthWest Federal Credit Union Harvest Haul. a food drive for the Long Beach Penninsula. This "Neighbor Helping Neighbor" event hit a home run for the Ilwaco and Ocean Park Food Banks with businesses, individuals and, school kids all pitching in to help restock some empty shelves. People came out in the pouring rain to contribute.
