It may be cloudy and cool here this morning but the weather situation throughout the rest of the Northwest is very different. The National Weather Service in Portland says hot weather will continue in Oregon through Wednesday.
The City budget comes first tonight with a meeting of the budget committee at 7pm with the City Council Meeting to follow. The Budget Committee will consider a new tourism promotion program that will make up to $30.000.00 in funding available to non-profit groups that put on events and festivals that attract tourism to Astoria.
Rear Adm. Richard T. Gromlich relieved Rear Adm. Keith A. Taylor as commander of the 13th Coast Guard District during a change-of-command ceremony at Coast Guard Base Seattle Friday. Taylor retired from the Coast Guard after dedicating 34 years to service and country.
Work is underway on a project to ease seasonal flooding on a stretch of U.S. Highway 101 south of Seaside. Heavy machinery from contractor Henderson LLC began removing a man-made berm surrounding property along the Necanicum River earlier this month. The work is expected to last into September.
The 33 people of the Lewis and Clark Expedition wintered at Fort Clatsop over 200 years ago. The 34th "member" of this expedition was Seaman, Meriwether Lewis' Newfoundland dog. The 20th annual Seaman's Day commemorating the dog of the Corps of Discovery will be held Wednesday, July 10 at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Fort Clatsop.
The County Board of Commissioners adopted the 2013-14 fiscal year Clatsop County budget, after amending the budget to add $7,500 in contributions to local social service agencies. The contributions, which totaled $30,000 in the 2012-13 budget year, were recommended for elimination in the upcoming budget as a cost-saving measure to improve the county's financial health.
