The Coast Guard rescued two men from a sinking vessel near Queets, Wash., Friday.

Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor in Westport, Wash., received a report from crew of the fishing vessel Koprindo that the vessel was taking on water approximately 15 miles west of Queets within the Olympic Marine Sanctuary.

The Coast Guard rescued three men who were forced to abandon ship after their vessel caught fire Friday.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River in Warrenton, Ore., recieved a Mayday call from the crew of the fishing vessel Havana at approximately 6 a.m. The crew reported the vessel was burning 17 miles west of Cannon Beach, Ore., with three people on board.

Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of the Clatsop County Medical Examiner, are continuing the investigation into the cause of death of an adult male found deceased Thursday evening in a van parked on the beach approximately a half mile north of the Del Ray Beach access north of Gearhart. There is no evidence the man's death is the result of a crime.

Transforming Downtown is for communities who are committed to downtown revitalization using the Main Street Approach(R) but need technical assistance to take them to the next level.

The Pacific County All Hazard Alert Broadcast (AHAB) outdoor sirens will be tested as part of the Great Washington ShakeOut, on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at 10:18 a.m. with the actual tsunami siren tone (a three minute wail), followed by a verbal message.  The AHAB sirens in Pacific County and the other outer Washington coastal counties are being activated to conduct a true "end-to-end" test of the entire tsunami warning system.

There may be some effective relief on the way for those who suffer motion sickness when heading out to enjoy our Northwest waters.

NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston and Epiomed Therapeutics Inc. of Irvine, Calif., have signed an agreement to develop and commercialize a NASA-crafted, fast-acting nasal spray to fight motion sickness.

The Coast Guard encourages owners and operators of vessels anchored or moored in Oregon or Washington to conduct preventative maintenance in anticipation of severe winter weather conditions.

"Completing simple preventative maintenance can prevent pollution incidents from occurring and damaging Oregon and Washington's natural resources," said Lt. Cdr. Kelly Thorkilson, Incident Management Division Chief for Coast Guard Sector Columbia River in Astoria.

The Astoria Fishermen survived a furious effort by the Seaside Seagulls and pulled out a dramatic 44-38 overtime win on Thursday night at John Warren Field. Senior RB Wyatt Wullger’s twisting 6 yard run in the first overtime gave the Fishermen their third straight victory as they stayed unbeaten in Cowapa League play at 3-0.

Wednesday afternoon a pedestrian was struck in downtown Astoria.  Police receiving the report at about 5:30pm of the accident near McDonalds at the crosswalk.  Nikolas McMackin, 15, of Astoria was crossing the street in the crosswalk when struck.

Disaster Action Team volunteers of the American Red Cross this morning responded to a disaster in the 92600 block of Ivy Station Rd. in Astoria, OR. This mobile-home fire displaced 2-adults and 3-children.  Red Cross provided assistance with food, lodging clothing, comfort kits, and information about Health and Mental Health services.

Ward two Astoria city council candidate Drew Herzig told the audience attending a candidate forum Wednesday that the city can't win it's fight with D.A. Josh Marquis, has spent too much money doing so, and should throw in the towel.
