Clatsop County continues to invite applications from citizens interested in serving on local budget committees. These citizen committees review the proposed budgets and make recommendations to the county commissioners. Each committee is made up of five county commissioners and five other local residents they appoint. The committees generally meet in May to review the proposed budgets.
A Newport-area man was arrested Tuesday after being indicted by a Lincoln County Grand Jury on drug-related charges following an investigation by the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT).
At a recent joint meeting between the city council and the city planning commission it was mentioned that one way to attack pedestrian safety issues in Astoria would be to launch a public awareness campaign. Today the Oregon department of Transportation began that effort by sending out a news release to local media. It reads:

Astoria Police, along with officers from Seaside Police Department, Cannon Beach Police Department and many other agencies attended the graduation of Basic Police Class 333. This graduation was significant to local agencies because it included officer Arthur (AJ) Duryea of the Astoria Police Department, Officer David Davidson of the Seaside Police Department and Sean Johnson of the Cannon Beach Police Department.
Senator Jeff Merkley introduced the Stopping Abuse and Fraud in Electronic (SAFE) Lending Act, the second bill introduction in a weeklong effort to highlight the need to protect consumers. The SAFE Lending Act would crack down on the worst practices of the online payday lending industry and give states more power to protect consumers from predatory loans.
