On December 17. 2012 at 8:08am Astoria Police Responded to a report that a male subject had pointed a rifle at his care giver and made threats to Charter Cable employees. Officers responded and contacted the caregiver who was no longer with the subject. She reported that while at a regularly scheduled visit with a 52 year old male subject who lives at 1508 Exchange St. he became upset over a billing dispute with Charter Cable. During that dispute he retrieved what was reported to be a bolt action rifle.

"The 24 designated 'Whale Watching Spoken Here' sites were selected because they are some of the best viewpoints to spot the roughly 18,000 whales that cruise past Oregon on their annual southbound migration," said Ian Fawley, Whale Watching Center interpretive ranger. Trained volunteers will be available at these sites along the coast 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. daily to help visitors learn about the whales' migration and feeding habits, and offer tips on how to spot the whales.

Stonepeak, a middle-market infrastructure investment firm with a focus on power, renewable energy, utilities, transportation and water, replaces Portland based Endeavour Capital as the major equity investor in Tidewater. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The Coast Guard is encouraging fishermen to conduct vessel stability checks on their boats after an incident with a fishing vessel near Wesport, Wash., Sunday. Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor responded to a distress call from the crew of the fishing vessel Lady Nancy stating they were taking on water and their crew of four had donned immersion suits.
On December 14, 2012 at 3:16 PM Astoria Police responded to the area of the Sunset Empire Transportation District's Office at 900 Marine Drive. A worker had reported that a couple had been having a fight on the premises and when confronted the male subject told them he hoped that they were safe in there because he had a gun. Federal, tribal, state and local partners are working closely to monitor waters off of Washington for a large dock that was reported drifting offshore on December 14. There has been no confirmation of the object and it has not been re-located since its initial report. The object is reported to be similar to a dock that beached in Oregon in July.

A high wind warning and a high surf warning remain in effect into early Monday afternoon as a strong winter storm hit the coast Sunday evening and into Monday, delivering strong winds, towering waves and rain to some places and heavy snowfall and whiteout conditions to others.
The storm's effects won't be limited to the coast and the mountains. Forecasters also have posted high-wind warnings with gusts up to 55 mph in Oregon's Willamette Valley and the metro Portland area.

While officers were arresting Orion Adamson, a 37 year old Astoria area transient, for his role in this mornings stolen car, Officer Ryan Sisley was taking a Burglary report in the 500 block of Florence. The apartment had been entered through a sliding glass door with a broken lock. Taken were a computer, credit cards, checks and keys to both a Ford truck and a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. The Harley Davidson motorcycle was also missing but found a short distance away on Taylor Street. During the investigation Adamson was developed as a suspect. When booked at the Clatsop County Jail on the earlier offenses, officers located keys to a Ford Pickup and the Harley Davidson which had been taken from the victims residence. Previous story.
An official with knowledge of Friday's shooting at a U.S. school said 27 people were dead, including 18 children. It was the worst school shooting in the country's history. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is under way.
Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity for the same reason, said the gunman was among the dead. The White House said President Barack Obama had been notified. The killings happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, about 60 miles (96 kilometers) northeast of New York City.
