The Planning Commission approved the new Neighborhood Greenway land use changes for Astoria's Alderbrook neighborhood Tuesday night and voted to send that recommendation on to the Astoria City Council.
This represents another step forward for the overall Riverfront Vision plan implementation. There will be no new rules for single and double family homes. No new design review requirements for those homes is included so people who testified at public hearings get their wish for the city to make no changes in that respect. Protection from development for Alderbrook lagoon was ratcheted up a notch taking the zoning from Aquatic 3 to Aquatic 4. Structures that are already on the waterfront have grandfathered rights that allow specifically for them but nothing new above bank level will be allowed. The City Council will hold a public hearing in November.
