The Astoria Police Department with the support of the Astoria Public Works Department will be presenting a Safety City event for the kindergarteners at John Jacob Astor Elementary School on June 4 and 5. Safety City is a traffic safety program that teaches children about pedestrian safety through hands-on experience combined with traditional instruction by presenters. Officer Kenny Hansen and Officer Matt Clausen will be leading the kids through pedestrian safety activities including an interactive experience that allows each child to practice their skills as the pedestrian and as the "driver" of Big Wheels on a simulated street. Both the City and Astor School are looking forward to supporting this enrichment program that emphasizes the importance of pedestrian safety to the youngest Astoria School District students.
