A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit that a Seaside detective brought against the Clatsop County district attorney.

The detective, Steve Barnett, alleged that District Attorney Josh Marquis and his chief deputy, Ron Brown, damaged his reputation and his ability to work as an investigator in retaliation for his political activities. The lawsuit, which sought $1 million in damages, claimed that the prosecutors refused to work with Barnett based on untruthful claims that he lacked credibility.

But U.S. District Judge Marco Hernandez threw out the lawsuit in an order last week. He said the defendants are entitled to absolute immunity for their exercise of prosecutorial discretion.
