An investigation by the Clatsop County Interagency Narcotics Team (CCINT) has led to the arrest of 47-year-old Astoria resident Darrin Paul Nichols. The investigation began when CCINT detectives learned Nichols was a Heroin and Methamphetamine dealer that supplied many people in the Astoria and Warrenton area. As the investigation continued, CCINT detectives were granted search warrants for Nichols, his vehicle and his residence on Mudd Lane, Astoria
On 03/27/2014, CCINT detectives and members of the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, executed search warrants at Nichols' residence and took him into custody. Also living at the residence was Nichols' long time girlfriend, Angela Rose Hakala 04/07/1981 and two minor children.
During the search of Nichols and his property, CCINT detectives located a dealer amount of Heroin and Methamphetamine, Suboxone tablets, Benzodiazepine tablets, multiple digital scales, drug packaging material, a restricted weapon, over $1000 in cash, Heroin pipes, Methamphetamine pipes, loaded syringes, stolen property and drug transaction records.
Also arrested at the scene were Timothy Dean Yaakola 08/14/1971 and Robert Donald Sparling 02/15/1964. Sparling was charged with Attempted Possession of Heroin with Possession of Heroin charges pending results from the crime lab. Yaakola was charged with Theft I and Unauthorized Entry to a Motor vehicle, for a theft that occurred last year in the City of Astoria.
Nichols was arrested on charges of Delivery of a Controlled Substance- Heroin, Delivery of a Controlled Substance- Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance- Heroin, Possession of a Controlled Substance- Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule II Substance- Suboxone, Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon, Theft by Receiving in the First Degree, Frequenting a Place Where Drugs are Used/Sold and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
DHS was called and decided to temporarily remove the minor children from the home. Sparling and Nichols were lodged at the Clatsop County Jail.
