No decision yet on which of three applicants will fill out fomer commissioner Debra Birkby's spot on the county board.  The remaining commissioners interviewed the applicants before the regular meeting Wednesday.  During the 6pm session commissioners said they would like to extend the decision until more members of the public have had the opportunity to comment on the appointment.  Birkby handed in her resignation on January 31, 2014 and by law the commission has 45 days to name a replacement for district five.  The three applicants are former county surveyor Dale Barrett, Matt Samuelson of Seaside, and Lianne Thompson of Arch Cape.  The successful appointee will serve out the rest of Birkby's term ending December 2014.  Of the three applicants, so far, only Thompson has filed for the position in the May 20 election.
