On February 18, at 2:11 AM, Deputy Seann Luedke, of the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 30 near Koppisch Rd. During the traffic stop, Deputy Luedke observed a generator in the bed of the vehicle. The generator was marked ODFW. Deputy Luedke believed the generator to be property of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Deputy Luedke questioned the occupants of the vehicle and seized the generator.
Deputy Luedke continued his investigation the evening of February 18th, learning the generator had been stolen from a residence at the Big Creek Fish Hatchery approximately 10 minutes prior to his traffic stop. Through his interviews with the involved parties, Deputy Luedke's investigation expanded to other crimes committed in 2013.
Deputy Luedke arrested Aaron Posey (20) and Enrique Sutphin (18) for Burglary I and Theft II for their involvement in the theft of the generator. Timothy Scovill (20) and Taylor Dales (18), were cited and released for Theft by Receiving. Sutphin was additionally charged with Burglary II, Theft I and Criminal Mischief II for his involvement in crimes occurring May 28, 2013 at the Knappa High School. Scoville was additionally arrested and charged with Theft III for crimes occurring November 30, 2013 at the Knappa Market. During the investigation Deputy Luedke contacted David Westberry (51) at Sutphins residence. Westberry was arrested on four felony warrants out of Clatsop County and three felony warrants from Columbia County.
Deputy Luedke is a Resident Deputy assigned to work the Columbia River Valley area. This patrol area is comprised of the communities of John Day, Fernhill, Burnside, Svenson, Brownsmead, Knappa, Clifton, Taylorville, Westport and River Ranch. Deputy Luedke has been a Deputy Sheriff since 2011.
