On December 2, 2013 Astoria Police were contacted by a 911 caller. The caller reported that they had located a deceased person in the woods behind Astoria High School.  Police arrived and contacted a 17 boy and 15 year old girl who had discovered the body. They had been in the area commonly known as "The Hill" waiting on a ride, the area is a mixture of private and public property. They were walking the trails when they came across what they initially thought was a person who had fallen down near a trail. They soon realized that the person was deceased.  An autopsy of the body was completed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner. The autopsy was not conclusive and a result is pending toxicology reports. No obvious cause of death was determined. A tentative identification was confirmed using fingerprints.

The deceased was identified as Christopher Tremain, Age 25. Tremain's family had not realized he was missing because he had told them he was turning himself in to the Clatsop County Jail. The last contact Astoria Police have documented was Wednesday November 27th. If anyone had contact with Tremain after that date they are asked to contact Astoria Police Detective Sergeant Eric Halverson at 503.325.4411 or This email address is being protected from spambots. .Astoria Police were assisted by a detective from the Oregon State Patrol in the investigation and were assisted by the Astoria Fire Department with manpower and resources. Because the on duty resources of the Astoria Police Department were tied up the Clatsop County Sheriff's office assisted in responding to calls for service.
