The board heard a presentation from Steven Blakesley, Health Promotion Specialist, on the Public Health Department's Community Health Improvement Plan. The plan draws on information collected in the Community Assessment, released in July, which collected health statistics for county residents. The health improvement plan will focus on access to health care, lifestyle choices, reducing chronic conditions and collaboration among agencies and partners with the goal of improving overall community health.
The health improvement plan is a key step in the department's effort to gain accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board, a voluntary national program to establish standards for local and state health agencies.
The board approved a contract with Zenn Associates for the "Clatsop County 2030: A Vision for the Future" project. The project will identify community goals and develop a long-range vision and strategic plan for the county, with involvement in the process by community partners, stakeholders and the public.
The $30,000 in funding for the contract comes from the county's Special Projects Fund.
In other business the board:
-Approved a letter to the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development in response to the agency's request for comment on its review of whether the 41 miles of natural gas pipeline proposed for construction in Clatsop County by Oregon Pipeline LLC is consistent with the Oregon Coastal Management Program, as required under federal law. The county letter points to the board's decision Oct. 9 to deny Oregon Pipeline's consolidated land-use application for construction of the pipeline, which would serve a liquefied natural gas terminal proposed for Warrenton.
