A helicopter company that transports bar pilots at the mouth of the Columbia River wants a management role at the Astoria Regional Airport in Warrenton.
Brim Aviation of Ashland took over the bar pilot work last year from a California based company. Bar pilots guide oceangoing vessels over the treacherous passage at the mouth of the river. Comapny representatives will make a presentation to the Astoria Port Commission at a 4:00pm worksession today (Tuesday).
The port recently laid off its part-time airport manager to save money. Brim would take over fueling, fixed-base operation and other services. It wants to provide 24-hour fuel service as well as courtesy cars for pilots and regional marketing for the airport.
