The special election ballot for November 8 only contains two measures. One affecting Warrenton taxpayers and Seaside School District residents in the other meaning only those voters will get a ballot.
Ballots for the election will be mailed out beginning Friday, Oct. 18. Ballots are not forwarded by the post office; therefore, voters are urged to update their registration if they have moved. Ballots will be mailed to registered voters in the City of Warrenton and in Administrative School District #10 (Arch Cape, Cannon Beach, Gearhart, Hamlet, Necanicum, Seaside and Stanley Acres).
The election features two tax measures:
Measure 4-167 – City of Warrenton: Renewal of five-year local option tax for police operations
Measure 4-168 – Administrative School District #10: General obligation bond not exceeding $128,800,000 to fund a K-12 Seaside school campus
In an interview last week on KAST 1370 District #10 Superintendent Doug Dougherty said his district's proposed plan to replace all the district schools with one school has several advantages and will replace the current school buildings which are in need of some expensive repairs. The new school would be built outside the Tsunami flood zone which would make it an ideal gathering spot to escape the big waves and would save some operational costs by consolidating staff in one facility. He pointed out that the bond interest rates are extremely low at present urging voters to approve the hefty measure now before those rates go up. The Seaside School District administrators are offering facility tours of each school on Monday, October 14. The purpose of the facilities tour is to share the instructional limitations and the current structural and mechanical conditions of each building. We will begin the tour at Seaside High School at 6:00 PM. We will then travel together by bus to Broadway Middle School, Seaside Heights Elementary School, and Gearhart Elementary School. We will then drop you back at Seaside High School around 8:00 PM.
