Two Clatsop County-area residents were arrested Tuesday night during an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper's traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Central Point following the discovery of handgun and heroin inside their vehicle. A 4-year old child passenger was taken into protective custody and turned over to Department of Human Services (DHS).
On October 8, 2013 at approximately 11:43 p.m., an OSP trooper stopped a 2014 Mazda MZ6 for a speed violation northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 32. The vehicle occupants were identified as driver MARIE D. JOHNSON, age 28, from Astoria; passenger DUSTIN W. TAYLOR, age 27, from Seaside; and, the driver's 4-year old son.
Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led the trooper to find a 9mm handgun underneath TAYLOR's seat, and small amount of heroin and other evidence related to the possession and distribution of heroin.
TAYLOR and JOHNSON were both arrested and lodged in the Jackson County Jail. JOHNSON was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance - Heroin. TAYLOR was arrested for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance - Heroin, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
DHS was contacted and took the child into protective custody.
