Pacific and Clatsop Counties are known throughout the region for their tourist attractions, but have you visited these sites? If it has been awhile since you've taken the time to "be a local tourist," the Hometown Tourism Day on Saturday, September 28 might be just the ticket for you. Several local sites are working together to offer free or reduced admissions or special programs on this day to encourage their neighbors to come and see what they have to offer. Here is a list of the special activities available this third annual Hometown Tourism Day.
Ø Naselle Timberland Library – 4 Parpala Rd, Naselle – Appelo Archive Center presents a free showing of the movie "Surviving the Dustbowl," 1:00.
Ø Cranberry Museum – 2907 Pioneer Rd., Long Beach – free admission & free postcard, 10:00-5:00.
Ø World Kite Museum – 303 Sid Snyder Dr., Long Beach - $1 off admission (regularly $5 adult, $4 senior, $3 child), 11:00 -5:00.
Ø Cape Disappointment State Park – Ilwaco – free park admission, $5 admission to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, 10:00-5:00.
Ø Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum – 115 SE Lake, Ilwaco - free admission, includes Charles Fitzpatrick: Pen & Photo exhibit and Smithsonian Magazine'sMuseum Day Live! event, 10:00-4:00.
Ø Fort Columbia State Park – Chinook – free admission to the grounds including trails, dawn to dusk.
Ø US Public Health Service Quarantine Station Museum at Knappton Cove – free admission, 1:00-4:00.
Ø Fort Stevens State Park – Warrenton – free park admission includes museum and trails, 10:00-6:00.
Ø Hanthorn Cannery Foundation Museum (Bumble Bee Seafoods Interpretive Center) – 100 39th St. - free admission, 9:00-6:00.
Ø Astoria Riverfront Trolley – Astoria – board at any trolley stop from Basin Street to 39th, extended hours this day: noon-10:00.
Ø Astoria Column – Astoria – free parking and free poster, 9:00-5:30.
Ø Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Fort Clatsop – South Slough Scramble fun walk/run at 10:00, 11:00-2:00 Family Fun at Netul Landing, free admission and ranger programs, 9:00-5:00.
Ø Ecola State Park – Cannon Beach – free admission including trails, dawn to dusk.
Ø Cannon Beach History Center – 1387 S. Spruce St., Cannon Beach – free admission, free postcard and free Sleepy Monk coffee, 1:00-5:00.
