The Port of Astoria Commission has voted to have staffers implement $20 daily parking fees at parts of its mooring basins on the east and west end of town. staff will also decide how many spots will be charged and find ways to identify local tenants who don't have to pay.

The plan could also include reducing some parking in front of the Chinook Building to a maximum of one hour.

Talking about a comprehensive accounting and fee schedule for parking on parts of port property, Commissioner Bill Hunsinger said he didn't know "why we didn't get this parking plan done, but we could use the money."

The port currently charges $5 a day for parking and trailer storage at the East End Mooring Basin or $60 for one month.

The late-summer Buoy 10 salmon fishing season started a week ago.
