Washington lawmakers are preparing to vote on a state budget, just hours after making it available to the public.
Details of the $33.6 billion spending plan were released overnight Friday. The Legislature hopes to pass the 483-page measure before close of business Friday, so that state workers leaving for the weekend will know that their jobs will still be there on Monday morning.
Much of state government would shut down if lawmakers fail to finalize the budget by the end of the weekend.
Budget negotiators reached a final deal on the spending plan Thursday after grappling over the details for weeks. They were supposed to finish the budget in April but have been sidetracked by a variety of tax and policy issues.
