The eight dragon columns, commissioned from Shaanxi Yuan Kun Sculptural Arts Company in Xian, China will be put into place in the Garden of Surging Waves on Tuesday, June 18th. The columns will be moved to the site in the morning and the first
one is expected to be put into place about noon.

Most of the columns are expected to be in place by the end of the day. These majestic granite columns are individually hand-carved with mythical dragons nestled in traditional Chinese cloud and ocean wave motifs. The columns will guard a
salmon-themed lantern suspended over a mosaic pattern of sturgeons in the Pavilion of Transition. The dragons on the columns, together with the dragon at the bronze lantern statue equal nine dragons in total – an auspicious celestial scene in Chinese culture. The Garden of Surging Waves seeks to honor the experience of the early Chinese immigrants and to celebrate their collective accomplishments and contributions to the Lower Columbia River Basin.

Fundraising efforts toward completion of the Garden of Surging Waves are ongoing, and there are diverse Garden elements still available to recognize donor contributions. Donor recognition opportunities start at $50. For more information about naming
opportunities or to make a donation, go to www.gardenofsurgingwaves.org.
