As part of the changes in structure in county government, Clatsop County Manager Scott Somers announces the appointment of Mike Grant as Director of Assessment and Taxation.
Grant joined Clatsop County in 2010 as a property appraisal supervisor. His background includes an appraiser position with the Oregon Department of Revenue, ownership of real estate and mortgage brokerage businesses and serving as adjunct professor of real estate finance courses at Marylhurst University. He has a Masters of Business Administration degree from Tulane University.
Grant's appointment takes effect July 1. His annual salary will be $80,964 plus benefits.
"In his tenure with Clatsop County, Mike has demonstrated exceptional skill and expertise as appraiser with the A&T Department," Somers said.
The assessment and taxation department is responsible for setting and updating the assessed values of all property, including land and improvements, in the county, as well as maintaining property ownership rolls, determining property tax rates, processing tax bills and collecting tax payments. The functions of that department were under the "catch-all" department for many years that handled central services that included bean counters and computer technicians amongst other things. Somers has split those functions into separate departments taking IT into the County manager's office and appointing a separate director for assessment and taxation.
