Monday evening June 17th Astoria celebrates the completion of the "Paulson Pavillion" portion of the Liberty Theater building. The city council meeting will be held in the theater's MacTavish room and after a short agenda a dedication for the new addition will be held.
In a news release the Liberty thanks a number of individuals and groups who have contributed to the years long process of turning the Liberty Theater into the town's showplace but highlights the contributions of the Paulson family. "LEKTRO and the Paulson Family have supported the Liberty Theater restoration since the beginning of our efforts, Eric Paulson served on our board of directors from 2000 through 2006. Eric's gift to this project was so incredibly generous that it will be remembered in Astoria for a long time to come. So we are pleased to be able to dedicate the Paulson Pavilion in honor of the generosity that Violet Paulson, Eric Paulson and their family have shown the Liberty Theater and all they have given to our community over the years. A very special THANK YOU to the roughly 350 individual community members, businesses and granting agencies who gave not only money, but time and expertise to this project."
The theater director also mentions the importance of the involvement with the city urban development district saying "Astor East Urban Renewal Agency's generous pledge of support at the very start of this project gave us not only needed monetary support, but reflected the tremendous community support for the Liberty Theater that other funding agencies love to see. Support that has taken the renovation of the Liberty Theater to the beautiful community treasure that we all now enjoy." At last weeks city council meeting it was mentioned that the district had contributed over $350,000 to the theater renovation over the years.
The meeting begins at 7:00pm withe dedication set for the last item on the council agenda.
