The Clatsop County Fairgrounds joins nine other county facilities banning all tobacco use on the main property. Fairgrounds Manager Gary Friedman says in a news release Thursday that the board decided to follow the County Commission decision to eliminate all tobacco use around county facilities.
Earlier County Manager Scott Somers confirmed that the county ban includes electronic cigarettes. Sometimes referred to as a "smoking" ban the policy actually covers tobacco in all forms. Friedman told KAST news that there are two exceptions to the ban. The Fair Board decided to allow tobacco use in the gravel parking area where the amusement rides are usually located during fair but the ban kicks in at the bridge to the fairground buildings on the main part of the property. The other exception is an option for large events that would attract more than 2000 people with the board selecting a designated area away from the buildings for smokers.
