The City of Astoria Historic Landmarks Commission has selected the 2013 recipients for the Dr. Edward Harvey Historic Preservation Award.  The award is presented each year to recognize property owners who have completed exterior restoration or beautification of a building which exemplifies the historical attributes of the building or the architectural heritage of Astoria.   The work must have been completed within the last two years. This year's National Historic Preservation Month theme was "See it. Save it. Celebrate it.".

For the year 2013, the Historic Landmarks Commission selected, in the Residential, Multi-Family category, Bob and Nancy Ross of Astoria for preservation of 225 Alameda. The property is historically known as Finn Housa.

Selected in the Residential, Single Family category is Mike Covert, Covert Properties, LLC, of Astoria for preservation of 2961 Grand. The property is historically known as Manula House.

In the Institutional category, the Historic Landmarks Commission chose the Columbia River Maritime Museum for restoration work done on the Astoria Train Depot at 2042 Marine Drive.

Framed certificates will be presented by the Mayor to the recipients at the May 20, 2013 City Council meeting.

The Historic Landmarks Commission felt it important to acknowledge two additional properties for Honorable Mention awards: Peter and Jan Hackett for their restoration efforts of 1188 Harrison and David and Judith McElroy for restoration of 634 Grand. The Dr. Edward Harvey Historic Preservation Honorable Mention Awards will be presented by the Historic Landmarks Commission on May 21, 2013.
