Astoria will see a record number of cruise ship visits this season beginning with Thursday's arrival of the Crystal Symphony at the Port of Astoria.  Crystal is a luxury line that is run by Americans but owned by a Japanese shipping company based in Tokyo.  The line only has two luxury-class ships, the Symphony and the Serenity.  The line completed the last phase of a five year $65 million renovation of the Symphony just last year.  The ship can carry 900 passengers and most of the staterooms are balcony suites.  Crystal is known for pampering passengers and is a favorite ship for foodies who are treated to cuisine from some of the worlds top chefs.  The ship will be departing Astoria at 5pm.

Friday the port plays host to Celebrity Century.  Over the course of May, as these ships are transitioning to take up Alaska cruise routes, there will be nine cruise ship visits. Beginning toward the end of August ships transitioning to fall and winter cruise routes will stop in Astoria for the day and in some cases there will be two of the big passenger liners making a stop at the same time with one tied up at the port and the other at anchor in the Columbia.

In all the port will accomidate 22 cruise visits this year.
