Former Astoria High School stand-out athlete Jordan Poyer had to wait a while before he heard his name called but Sunday he was the 218th pick overall in the seventh round of the NFL draft and will be competing for a spot on the Philadelphia Eagles roster.

Observers say that Poyer was a terriffic addition for the Eagles who are a little thin in the corner-back position.  Poyer was rated as the sixth favorite corner back going into the draft and it maybe that Poyer will be the only seventh round pick to make a team roster and see playing time his rookie year.  Poyer would be playing for another well-known Oregonian, former Oregon coach Chip Kelly who has always spoken highly of Poyer.  Kelly told reporters following the draft that poyer is a 'tough, hard-nosed player and a very, very good returner".
