On Saturday, April 27, 2013, Law Enforcement Agencies in Clatsop County will participate in the sixth National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), this collaborative effort between state and local law enforcement agencies provides residents with an opportunity to dispose of potentially dangerous controlled substances from their medicine cabinets in an environmentally safe manner.
While collection activities for this year's prescription drug take-back day will take place from 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m., Clatsop County Police agencies have drop boxes available every day at designated sites in Clatsop County. These sites include:
· Astoria Police Department – 555 30th Avenue
· Warrenton Police Department- 225 S. Main Ave
· Seaside Police Department – 1091 S. Holladay Drive
· Cannon Beach Police Department – 163 E. Gower Street
In the five previous National Prescription Drug Take-Back events, more than 2
million pounds (1,018 tons) of prescription medications were removed from circulation and properly disposed. Since the drop boxes were made available in Clatsop County, hundreds of pounds of prescription medications have been turned in a disposed of properly.
All law enforcement in Clatsop County asks that you check you medicine chest on a regular basis and take advantage of these drop boxes throughout the County. This will ensure that prescription medication does not fall in the wrong hands and will be disposed of properly.
