Getting a slight jump on celebrating Earth Day and earth Week, Tongue Point Job Corps Center (TPJCC) is offering the community the opportunity to recycle electronics and hard plastics. Recycling of electronic equipment and hard plastics will be available on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 10a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot just outside the center entrance.

The turn off to the center is located on highway 30 about two miles east of the Astoria Safeway and is designated by a flashing yellow light. There will be a directional sign on the highway at the turnoff. The following items will be accepted: Computers (Desktops, Laptops, Tablets, Notebooks, IPads), Computer Peripherals (external devices such as monitors, keyboards, mice, external disk drives, scanners, printers, webcams, speakers and microphones), MP3 players, IPods, TVs, VCRs, DVD & CD Players, Stereos, Cellular Phones, Telephones and phone equipment, CD's and DVD's and cases, VHS, 8 track and audio tapes. The following items cannot be accepted: microwaves ,copy machines, batteries of any kind, FAX machines, satellite dishes, computer 'floppies', or zip disks. Western Oregon Waste/Recology already accepts electronic equipment for recycling at their transfer station, so we're providing another location for one day," said Tita Montero, TPJCC business and community liaison. "We collected so much last year during this event, that they are generously providing a container three times larger."

In collecting hard plastics, such as CDs, VHS and 8 tracks, TPJCC is providing a service unavailable elsewhere in Clatsop County. Earth Day is April 22 with the following week designated as Earth Week, when more than one billion people around the world will be participating in ecological and green events. Global Youth Service Day, an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day concludes Earth Week on April 26-28, 2013. This recycling event is possible through support from Western Oregon Waste, a Recology company and
through the service participation by students of Tongue Point Job Corps Center.
