Friday morning at approximately 6:00A.M. Clatsop County Dispatch received a 911 call, reporting a person missing in Blind Slough near the Autio boat launch.  It was reported three men were in a small boat which capsized and sank.

The boat's operator, Lonnie Emken, 45 of Brownsmead and passenger Emery Neale, 60 of Knappa, were able to swim to shore and call 911.  A third passenger, Conrad Weirup, 58 of Knappa, wasn't able to reach shore and was missing.

Clatsop County Sheriff's Deputies, Knappa Fire and Medix responded to the scene.  The Sheriff's office Marine Patrol was able to locate and recover Weirup's body.  The investigation is continuing and will be reviewed by the District Attorney's Office.

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind boaters to have a personal flotation device readily accessible for every person aboard a boat.  Children 12 years and younger and required to wear a PFD while a vessel is underway, though it is recommended all persons wear a PFD.  Additionally be careful not to overload a vessel, which can cause it to become unstable and or sink.
