The next general meeting of the Regatta Association will be on Thursday, March 14th, starting at 7:00 pm at the Astoria City Hall in the city council chambers. The public is invited to attend what a association news release says is a "very important meeting". President Peter Roscoe will update the group on many "exciting developments", according to a news release from the organization. The Regatta Association Board of Directors will also be in attendance. The newly reformed Regatta Association says that many volunteers are needed for the various committees to make this event successful and appeals to citizens saying "This is OUR community's event. Come and show your support and sign up to help". After departing his position on the Astoria City Council this year Roscoe and a handful of others stepped forward to lead the organization after two-time President Eric Paulsen had announced that Regatta would likely take a year off to regroup after no one in the dwindling festival had stepped forward to take the leadership role. Roscoe has said that there is interest in taking the festival back to the water in terms of the events. He has said that there is interest on the part of the Columbia River Maritime Museum and Roscoe has appeared before the Astoria Port Commission to pitch the idea of free one day moorage for any boat that would participate in the Twilight Boat Parade, an event that Roscoe says he would like to see grow. Roscoe told KAST news it is unlikely that the Astoria Regatta would participate by sending representatives this year to other parades through the Northwest Festival Association as has been done in the past. The Festival Association provides a connection to other festivals which has seen those groups send entries for the annual Grand Land Parade in Astoria while Astoria has sent it's Regatta Court and a parade float to other Northwest parades. Roscoe said that would be too big a bite this year and he said the Festival organization will give Astoria a pass this year as they have have to do with other members of the organization who are suffering similar issues with both volunteers and finances.
