Each Spring the Astoria Public Works Department makes the rounds of all the fire hydrants in town to make sure they are working correctly.  The project is staged over several weeks and the city uses KAST Radio to let residents know when to expect the hydrants in their neighborhood will be flushed and flow tested.  Ordinarily the testing does not affect homeowners but part of the drill is making sure that when a hydrant is opened up it doesn't cause homes in the area to lose pressure or end up with discolored water on more than a temporary basis at the tap.

On Wednesday March 13, 2013 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  City of Astoria Public Works Operations will be flushing fire hydrants starting on 35th St. through 49th between Grand Ave. and Leif Erikson Dr., then continuing on

to fire hydrants in Alderbrook. Customers may experience temporary low pressure and/or water discoloration during the flushing and flow testing process.  If conditions continue after 3:30 p.m. please call Astoria Public Works Operations at 503-325-3524
