Oregon Emergency Management and the American Red Cross are scheduled to conduct a Tsunami awareness and preparation presentation March 12 at the Astoria Library, 450 10th St., Astoria, Ore., from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Cascadia Subduction Zone, near the Oregon coastline, closely resembles the coastline of Japan where the 2011 Japanese tsunami struck. Oregon is at risk for a similar event.
The presentation will focus on what tsunamis are and how to survive if a tsunami strikes the Oregon coast.
The event is scheduled to include door prizes, public is encouraged to attend.
"This will allow people to learn how to write their own survival story," said Althea Rizzo, Ph.D., Oregon Emergency Management geologic hazards program coordinator, who is scheduled to present at the event.
