Astoria Police, along with officers from Seaside Police Department, Cannon Beach Police Department and many other agencies attended the graduation of Basic Police Class 333. This graduation was significant to local agencies because it included officer Arthur (AJ) Duryea of the Astoria Police Department, Officer David Davidson of the Seaside Police Department and Sean Johnson of the Cannon Beach Police Department.
Graduation from the basic police class marks the completion of a police officers Basic Training. During their 16-week basic training officers learn dozens of subjects including survival skills, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, ethics, cultural diversity, problem solving, elder abuse, drug recognition and others. Their agencies will complete a field training manual where they will be required to demonstrate knowledge under close supervision in the field before the officers can be certified.
Department of Public Safety Standards and Training conducts the training at their academy in Salem Oregon.
