The City of Ilwaco is accepting resumes and letters of interest for Position #3 on the Parks and Recreation Commission and Positions #2 and #5 on the Ilwaco Planning Commission. Position #3 of the Parks and Recreation Commission will serve until June 2015. Positions #2 and #5 of the Planning Commission will serve until January 2019 and 2016 respectively.
The Parks and Recreation Commission champions the Black Lake invasive species eradication, coordinates the Black Lake Fishing Derby, helps coordinate various recreation programs between agencies, and advises the mayor and City Council on the recreation needs of Ilwaco and beautification, improvement and development of parks and recreation grounds, facilities and open space. Most recently, the Parks and Recreation Commission helped facilitate an easement so the Black Lake trail could be extended around the lake through private property, and is working with Eagle Scout Austin Auttelet to install docks on the east side of Black Lake to improve access for recreation and enjoyment.
The Ilwaco Planning Commission advises the mayor and council on land use, planning and zoning matters, such as subdivisions, conditional uses, variances, and dedications and vacation of streets and alleys.
Both the Parks and Recreation Commission and Planning Commission consist of five members appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council. The members are selected without respect to political affiliations, and they serve without compensation.
The Parks and Recreation Commission meets regularly the second Friday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Ilwaco Community Building. The Planning Commission meets regularly on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Ilwaco Community Building.
