After leading the mostly volunteer Warrenton Fire Department for over 15 years Ted Ames will move across the bay to become Astoria's new Fire Chief with a swearing in ceremony at Monday's city council meeting
It wouldn't be the first time Astoria firefighters have worked with Ames since mutual aid agreements between the cities sees Ames Warrenton department often responding to aid in battling Astoria fires. Astoria City Manager Paul Benoit told KAST News that as he was interviewing others regarding Ames the response was very positive from firefighters and others in the community he talked with as part of his due diligence investigation. Ames is well respected within the community of emergency responders and has been an advocate for local EMT training programs at Clatsop Community College. As Warrenton Fire Chief, Ames has operated primarily with volunteers overseeing a rigorous training program and managing to maintain an effective department dealing with increased calls for medical emergencies under some challenging budget limitations as Warrenton continues to add population. Ames will be replacing Pete Cruzon who has been acting as interim Fire Cheif after the departure of Lenard Hansen.
Ames will be officially sworn in on Monday along with new Ward two City Councilor Drew Herzig and returning Ward Four Councilor Russ Warr.
