Astoria Police Recover Stolen Vehicle; Vehicle found 7 Minutes After Report

At 6:59am Friday Morning Astoria Police were notified by the owner of a 1993 Ford Explorer that his vehicle had been stolen from the area of 828 Franklin. He reported that the vehicle had been stolen about an hour prior.  Seven minutes later, at 7:06 Officer Matt Clausen saw a vehicle that matched the description.

When the driver of that vehicle noticed the patrol car he began to operate the vehicle in a reckless manner including passing a school bus. Clausen felt he needed to initiate the traffic stop despite not having other units available immediately. Clausen attempted to initiate a high risk car stop but the driver turned south on 34th street then West into the parking area behind Bethany Lutheran Church. When he was approaching a guardrail that turns the area into a dead end street he jumped out of the car and ran from the area on foot. The passenger had to stop the vehicle to avoid a collision. Officer Clausen held the passenger at gunpoint until other units arrived. The passenger, Samuel Johnson, Age 22 and a local transient, was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Officers continued to search the area for the driver but were unable to locate him.

At 0842 Astoria Police received a call from a resident in the 600 block of 33rd. They reported that there was a person lying in the back yard of a house located at 3307 Franklin. Officers arrived and located the driver of the vehicle, Orion Adamson, a 37 year old Astoria area transient. Adamson was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Trespass, Reckless Endangering, Attempt to Elude, Reckless Driving, Driving While Suspended, Driving Uninsured, and possession of less than an ounce of Marijuana within a 1000 feet of a school. He was also arrested on a warrant from the State Parole Board for Parole Violation. He was on probation for Burglary.

Adamson was also arrested in January of 2010 in this neighborhood after damaging the retaining wall of First Lutheran Church in a hit and run crash and a burglary where he was attempting to break down a door with a hatchet.
