A religious retreat on the Oregon coast is on the auction block. The Jesuits plan to sell their 93-acre Nestucca Sanctuary. It's on a spit near Pacific City.
A Jesuit official says the sale is part of a trend within the group nationally, as retreat use has declined. The Jesuits developed the site in the 1930s for novitiates to study and reflect. After half a century, it became a retreat, but the Jesuits say it's gotten little use for about five years.
The retreat accommodates 38 in a lodge, dormitory and four cabins. The sealed bidding ends Wednesday. Under the terms, the property sells if a bid reaches a target price, nearly $1.3 million. But the seller could decide to accept a lower bid.
