The City of Astoria has enacted a new ordinance that prohibits feeding wild animals and birds in city limits. Based on an earlier ordinance banning feeding pigeons in a section of Uniontown this new rule applies to the entire city.
The new law states that a person who knowingly places, deposits, distributes, stores or scatters food, garbage or any other attractant so as to constitute a lure, attraction or enticement for pigeon, deer, elk, raccoon, opossum, seagulls, bear, cougar or coyote may be issued a written notification by a police officer or any person authorized to enforce city codes requiring that the attractant be removed within two days of notification. Each day the nuisance is not removed after that two day period is considered a separate offense and that can lead to running up some big fines.
