Power first went out Tuesday afternoon around 2:30pm in areas of Astoria when sections of a tree fell onto power lines causing the outage. Pacific power first reported that there were just under 2000 customers affected. Pacific power then raised the number of customers with service knocked out to 2,285. Pacific Power crews initially expected to have power restored by 5:30pm. That timeline was later moved to 8:00pm and then moved back to 11:30pm. Clatsop Community College was forced to cancel classes due to the outage.
The outage comes as rough weather hits the coast. The National Weather Service issuing a Coastal Flood Advisory and a Flood Watch for the area expected to last through Wednesday into the evening. Additionally the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries warning that the wet conditions bring increased potential for landslides and debris flows in Coast Range of Northwest Oregon; North Oregon Coast.
