Updated: At 9:13 pm on October 21st, Astoria Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 121 W. Marine Drive. Fire personnel arrived on scene at 9:17 pm to find a one story building with fire venting from windows on the SW corner of the building. The fire was brought under control at 9:32 pm and crews stayed on scene until 11:25 pm to overhaul the fire area and secure the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Clatsop County Fire Investigation Team will be called in to help with the fire investigation.
Damage is estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $12,000 to the contents, the building is owned by the Astoria/Warrenton Chamber of Commerce.
As part of an automatic aid protocol, crews from Lewis & Clark Fire District and Olney-Walluski Fire District were included in the initial dispatch. The fire was upgraded to a “Working Fire” providing additional resources from Warrenton Fire Department. Twenty-three fire personnel, five engines, two command vehicles, and Community Emergency Response Team members were on scene during this event. Medix ambulance was also on-scene to provide medical assistances and the Astoria Police Department assisted with traffic control and securing the area. Astoria Fire Department would like to remind everyone to check their smoke detectors monthly. Smoke detectors can alert the occupants of a fire, but fire sprinkler systems can extinguish a fire. Fire Sprinkler systems provide a protection of investments, irreplaceable items, and may lower insurance rates.
Crews responded to a one-alarm fire Sunday evening in the Annex building of the Astoria Warrenton Chamber of Commerce located at 121 West Marine Drive in Astoria. The first report was at 9:09pm. The fire reportedly only burning in a single room within the building. Responding departments included Astoria, Warrenton, Olney-Waluski, Knappa and Lewis & Clark. The investigation into that fire continues.
