It took some phone calls and some lobbying to get on the schedule and now Kevin Leahy hopes local business people will take advantage of the opportunity to talk directly with representatives of key state government agencies coming to Astoria for what is billed as the 'Governor's Marketplace Roadshow" October 24th.
Leahy, who is the Executive Director of Clatsop Economic Development Resources (CEDR) and the Clatsop Community College Small Business Development Center says that the Governor had planned a regional event in Tillamook but he was able to convince the state that local business people would not make the drive south and that if the event were also held in Astoria there would be great interest here.
The roadshow features representatives from the Oregon Transportation Department, the Department of State Administrative services, Business oregon, GCAP part of a nationwide network of Procurement Technical Assistance centers that assists Oregon businesses in marketing products and services to government agencies, The Business Express which is the states one-stop business portal to help businesses quickly find information and services on line, Worksource Oregon will provide an economist to give a quick overview of the local economy including labor trends, The Oregon department Of Revenue will give a presentation and The Oregon Small Business Council will have a representative on hand to talk about how that organization was formed to provide a voice for Oregon small businesses in state government. Following presentations there will be break-out groups as well.
The event runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Clatsop Comunity College, Columbia Hall room 219. The roadshow is free and luch is provided. Pre-registration is required with that registration on line at : http://govroadshow2012astoria.eventbrite.com
