Astoria, OR – The Astoria Fishermen used a balanced attack to beat the Tillamook Cheesemakers 32-22 on Friday night in Tillamook in Cowapa League action. With the win the Fishermen improved to 2-0 in Cowapa League play.
Senior QB Jeramy Poyer led the way for the Fishermen by throwing for two scores and running for two as well. Senior RB Wyatt Wullger added a TD reception, to back up his fine night of work on the ground.
Astoria’s opening possession of the game came after a defensive stand that stopped the Mooks at the Fishermen 4 yard line. Astoria marched 96 yards in 14 plays and finished the drive off with a 12-yard TD pass from Poyer to junior WR Nick Strange. Astoria would score on four of their five first half possessions in building a 22-14 lead at recess.
Sophomore kicker Michael Johanseon added a pair of field goals from 32 and 37 yards to help pace the Fishermen attack.
Astoria sealed the victory with a drive that took 8:11 off the clock late in the fourth as they won their second straight game.
The Fishermen host Seaside this Thursday night at John Warren Field in the Clatsop Clash.
