State Representative Deborah Boone (D) Cannon Beach, will hold a coastal emergency preparedness legislative town hall meeting October 25th at the Pine Grove Community Hall in Manzanita beginning at 7pm. Boone serves on the Oregon Seismic Safety Policy Advisory Commission, and is bringing together emergency management experts and officials to talk about coastal emergency response strategies.
Some of those expected to participate include: Camp Rilea Post Commander Lt. Colonel Dean Perez,Tillamook County Commissioner Mark Labhart, Clatsop County Commissioner Peter Huhtula, HalDenison the Clatsop County Emergency Volunteer Auxiliary Coordinator, Gordon McCraw TillamookCounty Emergency Management Director, and Linda Kozlowski Director of the Nehalem Bay EmergencyVolunteer Corps.
"We have held a number of Tsunami evacuation drills, and now it's time to bring people together todiscuss lessons learned, and how we go forward to best protect our citizens." Boone said. "This townhall is for community members who want to learn more about emergency preparedness, and how wecan work together most effectively in times of crisis."
The Oregon Office of Emergency Management is working on the development of the Oregon ResiliencePlan, which came about due to House Resolution 3, a bill sponsored by Boone during the 2011Legislative Session. The landmark legislation, aimed at preparing the state's response during and aftera Cascadia (megathrust) earthquake and tsunami, received unanimous support in the Oregon Houseof Representatives, and was endorsed by Governor Kitzhaber and President Obama.
The Oregon Resilience Plan is scheduled to be delivered to the 2013 Legislative Assembly in February. The October25th Town Hall will be a chance for local citizens to hear about the plan, and learn more about what theycan do to implement potentially life-saving measures before, during and after a natural disaster."This is a critical issue for the well-being of our people and communities, and I hope to see lots of peopleThursday night in Manzanita." Boone said
