On a beautiful North Coast Friday evening the Astoria Fishermen played their first game in a month on the gridiron and pounded the Yamhill-Cartlon Tigers 41-13 in the Cowapa League opener for each team at John Warren Field

Senior QB Jeramy Poyer led the way for the Fishermen with 158 yards on 10 carriers, including a 65 yard TD scamper on the second play for scrimmage. Astoria totaled 303 yards rushing as senior RB Wyatt Wullger added 80 yards on 10 carries.

The Fishermen opened up a 21-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back, cruising to the homecoming win as they are now 1-0 in league action.

Junior WR Nick Strange helped Astoria get great field position all game by averaging 24.2 yards per punt return on five opportunities.

The Astoria defense put the clamps on the Tigers offense, led by a seven tackle performance by junior Chris Leonardi.

The Fishermen travel to Tillamook this Friday night.
