At the recommendation of staff, the Clatsop County board of commissioners rejected all three contractor bids submitted for the S.E. Ensign Lane construction project. The project involves grading, paving and striping of the three-quarter-mile extension of Ensign Lane, which runs through the county's North Coast Business Park in Warrenton between U.S. Highway 101 and Highway 105.
Public Works Director Ed Wegner explained that the original low bidder, Tapani, Inc., incorrectly used an alternate bid sheet for its submission, which resulting in the company leaving out approximately $200,000 in additional costs. Due to the error, Wegner explained that staff determined the best course of action was to reject the bids and seek new quotes. The project was put out for bid again and is expected to be brought back to the board for selection of a contractor on Oct. 10.
