Over the weekend on Saturday the Coast Guard Sector Columbia River hosting its annual open house event.  The event took place at the Air Station next to the Astoria Regional Airport.  The annual event offering civilians the opportunity to see vessel displays and rescue helicopters up close.  Also present were The Coast Guard Auxiliary, Red Cross, Department of Defense and local fire and police.

During the Monday evenings City Council meeting last Mayor Van Dusen and CouncilorArline LaMear taking a moment to acknowledge how fortunate Astoria is to have Coast Guard Sector Columbia River.  Explaning that Astoria should take pride in being the newest official Coast Guard city.  Councilor LaMear stressing the importance of the local Coast Guard contributions and involvment with the community.
