The accident Monday just south of Vernonia resulted in one person critically injured and life-flighted from the scene. The driver, later found to be Julie Johnson, age 26 of Vernonia, fled the scene of the crash on foot. After a search authorities located and arrested Johnson on numerous charges including DUII, hit and run, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, assault and criminal mischief. Authorities only found Johnson after reports of a suspicious person hiding in the area.
Neither Johnson or her passenger, Sara Leloff, age 32 of Vernonia, were wearing safety restraints. Leloff was life-flighted from the crash to OHSU and was listed in serious condition Tuesday. Johnson was not injured in the crash. HWY 47 was closed for 2 hours after the crash.
