Updated: On Wednesday at 8:43 P.M. Emergency units were dispatched to the intersection of 33rd and Leif Erikson Dr. for a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.
A white 1999 Buick Century operated by 44 year old Robert Brown of Astoria, struck the victim, 58 year old Craig Myers of Astoria, in the westbound portion of the crosswalk. Myers who was unconscious at the scene, was initially transported from the scene to Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was later transferred to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland Oregon via Life Flight Helicopter. He is reported to be in critical condition.
Traffic was restricted to one lane for approximately 3 hours, while Astoria Police, with the assistance of an Oregon State Police Traffic Crash Reconstructionist investigated the scene. Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation also assisted at the scene.
According to Sgt. Halverson, the crash investigation continues. He said the Astoria Police Department is seeking information from any person who may have witnessed the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information related to the crash is asked to contact the Astoria Police Department at 503-325-4411.
Late Wednesday night around 9pm, a pedestrian / vehicle accident closed HWY 30 for a period of time at 33rd and Lief Erikson. Oregon State Police and Astoria police investigating that accident. The victim was lifeflighted to Portland with serious injuries. The victim reportedly a 58 year old man was struck after the driver ran a red light according to witnesses. All information will be forwarded to the district attorneys office for review.
