NW Natural and the American Red Cross are teaming up during National Preparedness Month to help Oregonians prepare for a natural disaster or emergency. During the month of September, "Get Ready" events will be held in various communities across the state and one of those events is set for Astoria September 8 -- Lindstrom Park  from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., joined by Astoria Fire Department.
The Eagle 103.9 will be there broadcasting live.

The first 100 families will receive free Red Cross emergency kits.  A free lunch will be provided, as well as safety demonstrations, kids' activities, tours and materials from local emergency groups.

Additionally, NW Natural will donate $2,000 to the American Red Cross Oregon Chapter at each of six statewide events for a total of $12,000.

"Safety is a fundamental core value at NW Natural, and being prepared for an emergency is a key component of that," said Von Summers, NW Natural community affairs manager. "We believe that it's important to not only make a financial contribution to help vital organizations like the Red Cross, but to also gather all of the local emergency groups and citizens to work together to become as prepared as possible."
